What legal documents ship with hotel teak furniture exports?
Every teak export leaves Indonesia under SVLK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu), the country’s mandatory national timber-legality system, compulsory for all timber-industry entities since January 2013. Its legal basis includes Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 8 of 2021, and the HS codes that must carry V-Legal or FLEGT documents are set by Minister of Trade Regulation No. 12 of 2022. Since 1 January 2013 timber exports must carry a V-Legal Document, and since 1 January 2015 all wooden furniture except bamboo requires a V-Legal furniture export licence. Teak is explicitly within SVLK scope.
For EU-bound hotel projects, Indonesia was the world’s first country to export FLEGT-licensed forest products, issuing FLEGT licences since November 2016. A FLEGT licence automatically meets the EU Timber Regulation (Regulation (EU) No 995/2010), so importers can place goods on the EU market without further due-diligence risk management.
One caveat we state plainly: the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR, Regulation (EU) 2023/1115), adopted in 2023, adds requirements beyond legality — products must be deforestation-free against a cut-off of 31 December 2020, with due-diligence statements and geolocation. SVLK and FLEGT alone do not by themselves guarantee EUDR compliance, and with full application phasing in around end-2026 it becomes a 2027 buyer concern. We prepare the traceability documentation; we do not sell EUDR or customs certainty. Note too that the trade ministry announced on 2 May 2025 that it is relaxing V-Legal document requirements for furniture exports except to the EU and UK.
